R.A.C.E.
Rapid Assistance for Citizen Emergencies

R.A.C.E. is a community service program designed to help identify persons with special needs who may require extra assistance in an emergency. Some examples of situations and persons for whom the program was designed include:

  • Senior citizens
  • Hearing, vision, or speech impairments
  • Physical disabilities, such as being confined to a bed or wheelchair
  • Ventilator or supplemental oxygen dependent

How to enroll in the R.A.C.E Program

Enrollment for yourself or a loved one in this free-of-charge and potentially fire saving program requires only a few simple steps:

STEP ONE:

  • Print off a R.A.C.E. form .
  • Mail your request for information #1 Timberbrook St. Peters, MO 63376 ATTN: RACE Program
  • Call business office during normal business hours (636) 970-9700
  • Or stop by any one of our six stations,

STEP TWO:

Complete a simple questionnaire which asks some basic information regarding the nature of the special circumstance, the age of the person(s), address and telephone number.

STEP THREE:

Upon receipt of a completed enrollment form, an employee of the fire department will review the information to ensure that we have a thorough understanding of the situation. In some cases we may contact you to request additional information. We may also ask for permission to come to your house to introduce ourselves and to familiarize ourselves with the layout and any special devices, such as medical equipment, that may be present.

How it works...

The overall process of the R.A.C.E. Program follows a prescribed series of steps to alert the responding emergency personnel of a potential compounding of the situation.

  • When an emergency occurs, a call is placed to 9-1-1
  • The fire department is alerted and responds to the call for help
  • While enroute to the emergency, personnel reference their locator guides
  • If there is an indication of a R.A.C.E. participant at that address, further information is referenced so that the responding personnel will be prepared for the special circumstances
  • Once alerted to the existence of a R.A.C.E. program participant and their special circumstances, responding personnel can be more effective in their rescue efforts

Confidentiality

The information obtained from you for this program will be kept strictly confidential. Only authorized emergency personnel will have access to this private information. It will not be published or available for viewing by the general public.
