CERT Training

CERT Training: CERT members will have the opportunity to maintain and refine their skills by participating in exercises and activities. They can attend supplemental training that will be hosted through Central County Fire and Rescue and the City of St. Peters Police Department periodically. This will keep members fresh on skills learned in the initial training and further their skill base.

What will the training consist of?

  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Fire Safety / Suppression
  • Disaster Medical Operations
  • Light Search and Rescue
  • Team Organization
  • Disaster Psychology
  • Disaster Exercise

CERT Training will teach participants to:
  • Describe the types of hazards most likely to affect their homes and communities.
  • Describe the function of CERT and their roles in immediate response.
  • Take steps to prepare themselves for a disaster.
  • Identify and reduce potential fire hazards in their homes and workplaces.
  • Work as a team to apply basic fire suppression strategies, resources, and safety measures to extinguish a burning liquid.
  • Apply techniques for opening airways, controlling bleeding, and treating shock.
  • Conduct triage under simulated conditions.
  • Perform head-to-toe assessments.
  • Select and set up a treatment area.
  • Employ basic treatments for various wounds.
  • Identify planning and size-up requirements for potential search and rescue situations.
  • Describe the most common techniques for searching a structure.
  • Use safe techniques for searching a structure.
  • Describe ways to protect resources during search and rescue.
St. Peters/Central County CERT members continue to update their skills by attending monthly supplemental training that will be hosted through Central County Fire & Rescue and the City of St. Peters Police Department.  Additional training and skill refreshers are held on the third Monday of every month.  See the calendar on the home page for times and locations.  

Members also have the opportunity to take part in a yearly Disaster Exercise which includes all of the CERT teams from St. Charles County and the surrounding region.
