Wanted!
A Few Good Teenagers

Firefighters with Central County Fire and Rescue who have a genuine interest in the youth of the Fire District have joined together and formed the Central County Explorer Post #9591.  This special interest post is an extension of the Exploring Division of the Boy Scouts of America.  This Progressive Fire Service Post will participate in many different Fire District and civic functions which will include but not limited to job-oriented skills, educational drills, service to the community and social/recreational activities.

Firefighter Don Shaffer, one of the Fire Post leaders stated that most interested individuals who join the Explorer Post want to find out if this career path is right for them.  There are individuals who already know that they want a career in the fire service and are utilizing the Explore Post as a stepping-stone into the fire academy.  Along with all of the training and hard work within the Fire Post there is a lot of camaraderie.  Members will make new friends and possibly establish a network for them to assist in their career pathway.

Teenagers who are interested in the Fire Post Explorer Program must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be 14 years old and had graduated from middle school and not older than 21 years of age.
  • Must be a resident of Central County Fire and Rescue
  • Submit a completed Explorer application form.
  • Complete a Parental Permission and Consent to treat form
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation check.
  • Must maintain a 2.0 or greater GPA. Must provide a copy of report card quarterly.
  • Pay the initial fee of $200, which will provide the explorer with a fire helmet.

For more information or if you have any questions please contact Assistant Chief Steve Brown at 636-262-9503.
